Saturday marked the eighth time Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro wide receiver Mike Evans has led his annual free youth football camp in his hometown of Galveston, but the passage of time hasn’t at all dimmed his sunny outlook on it.

“It’s something I always look forward to; it’s one of the best parts of my year and my family’s year,” Evans said.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Mike Evans was in town hosting his 2nd Annual Tee-Off bash over at Top Golf Saturday night.

Fans were able to meet the Aggie legend and enjoy golf, family friendly activities and raffles.

The bash helps raise money for the Mike Evans Family Foundation’s scholarship fund which gives back to the Texas community.

Mike’s foundation focuses on empowering youth, encouraging education and taking a stand against domestic violence.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Monmouth College senior Cody Szelc has built an extraordinary legacy, balancing academic excellence and athletic success with a determination that has inspired many. A recipient of the prestigious Mike Evans Family Foundation Scholarship, Szelc’s journey at Monmouth is a testament to perseverance, discipline and gratitude.

“Honestly, receiving the Mike Evans Family Foundation Scholarship meant everything to me,” said Szelc, who came to Monmouth from Riverview, Florida. “Without this generous gift, I would not be where I am today, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am.”

The scholarship not only provided financial assistance but also fueled his motivation to excel both in the classroom and on the football field.

The Bucs announced on Friday that wide receiver Mike Evans was selected as the team’s 2024 Ed Block Courage Award Winner. Evans was selected by a vote from his teammates.

The award, which is given out to a player on every NFL team, is named in honor of Ed Block, who was a trainer for the Baltimore Colts and is a humanitarian. The award is meant to symbolize professionalism, strength and dedication along with acting as a community role model. It is mean to be given to someone that best exemplifies sportsmanship and courage.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today wide receiver Mike Evans as their nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide. Evans has now been nominated four times for the prestigious honor, which recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities, as well as excellence on the field.

"To be nominated for this award amongst the best our league has to offer is an incredible honor," said Evans. "There is so much more to being a professional athlete than what you do on the field, and I am humbled to be nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year. I am so grateful to have this platform that allows me to positively impact those in need and to continue the important work we are doing through our foundation."

People needing a home-cooked meal this holiday season were not only treated to a buffet of traditional turkey day fixings, but also a festive atmosphere akin to a big family gathering at Saturday’s Mike Evans Family Foundation Thanksgiving Luncheon held at Galveston’s Historic Water & Electric Community Center.

“I’m happy that everybody can go out and spend some time together,” said Evans, who also expressed his regret for being unable to attend the third annual event in person while he rehabs a hamstring injury. “This is something I’ve always dreamed of doing. It’s something I hope to do for a long time.”

The Ball High and Texas A&M alumnus and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wideout, through his foundation, provided 300 Thanksgiving meals for local residents in need. The event, which ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, also featured a DJ providing music and plenty of smiling faces.

Mike Evans said devoting time to his foundation -- which has provided $560,000 in college scholarships to youth in Florida and Texas and supports victims of domestic violence -- has helped keep his spirits up since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 7.

"Just having that power just to just give back and help people out. I've been helped. ... I've had so many people throughout my whole life just help me and my family, and without those people I wouldn't be where I am today. So I have to pay it forward and it brings me joy," said Evans.

One of the Buccaneers' star players felt compelled to offer assistance to the Tampa Bay community in their time of need.

On Wednesday, we threw a "Back-to-School Bash" at Children's Home Network in Tampa, complete with pizza and backpacks filled with school supplies for every child currently living on the campus. When it comes to giving back to the community off the field, nobody in the NFL does it better than Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans.

Not only is Evans constantly active with multiple charity endeavors throughout the Tampa Bay area, but he does the same for his hometown of Galveston, Texas.

In fact, Evans was back in Galveston this weekend holding a youth football camp, with Bucs teammate (and fellow Galveston product) Zyon McCollum. Zyon’s twin brother, Tristin, who plays safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, was also in attendance.

Much like the athleticism he has used to build a Hall-of-Fame-caliber NFL career, Mike Evans’ drive to continue giving back is instinctual, ingrained and natural.

“I never do any community work and think about legacy — it’s just how I was raised and what this community means to me,” said Evans, who Saturday morning hosted his eighth yearly free football skills camp for area children at Spoor Field just off the campus of Galveston’s Ball High School where he once traversed the halls as a basketball and football standout.

“I’d do it if there were cameras or no cameras,” Evans added. “I’m just trying to leave Galveston better than when I came up.”
