Saturday marked the eighth time Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro wide receiver Mike Evans has led his annual free youth football camp in his hometown of Galveston, but the passage of time hasn’t at all dimmed his sunny outlook on it.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Mike Evans was in town hosting his 2nd Annual Tee-Off bash over at Top Golf Saturday night.

Fans were able to meet the Aggie legend and enjoy golf, family friendly activities and raffles.

The bash helps raise money for the Mike Evans Family Foundation’s scholarship fund which gives back to the Texas community.

Mike’s foundation focuses on empowering youth, encouraging education and taking a stand against domestic violence.

Mike Evans Wins Very Distinguished Award

The Bucs announced on Friday that wide receiver Mike Evans was selected as the team’s 2024 Ed Block Courage Award Winner. Evans was selected by a vote from his teammates.

The award, which is given out to a player on every NFL team, is named in honor of Ed Block, who was a trainer for the Baltimore Colts and is a humanitarian. Meals, good times served at NFL star's Thanksgiving lunch

GALVESTON

People needing a home-cooked meal this holiday season were not only treated to a buffet of traditional turkey day fixings, but also a festive atmosphere akin to a big family gathering at Saturday’s Mike Evans Family Foundation Thanksgiving Luncheon held at Galveston’s Historic Water & Electric Community Center.

“I’m happy that everybody can go out and spend some time together,” said Evans, who also expressed his regret for being unable to attend the third annual event in person while he rehabs a hamstring injury. “This is something I’ve always dreamed of doing. It’s something I hope to do for a long time.”

The Ball High and Texas A&M alumnus and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wideout, through his foundation, provided 300 Thanksgiving meals for local residents in need. The event, which ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, also featured a DJ providing music and plenty of smiling faces.

In fact, Evans was back in Galveston this weekend holding a youth football camp, with Bucs teammate (and fellow Galveston product) Zyon McCollum. Zyon’s twin brother, Tristin, who plays safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, was also in attendance.

“I never do any community work and think about legacy — it’s just how I was raised and what this community means to me,” said Evans, who Saturday morning hosted his eighth yearly free football skills camp for area children at Spoor Field just off the campus of Galveston’s Ball High School where he once traversed the halls as a basketball and football standout.

“I’d do it if there were cameras or no cameras,” Evans added. “I’m just trying to leave Galveston better than when I came up.”
